Client: Lapland Glow Hotel
Location: Olleronvaarantie 57, 96100 Rovaniemi, Finland
Project Type: Small luxury chalet hotel
Floor Area: Glow Chalets 20 m², Glow Spa Chalets 29 m²

Project Background

Lapland Glow Chalets is an intimate luxury accommodation in Rovaniemi where natural serenity, Arctic light, and understated luxury come together. The client aimed to create an experiential lodging concept that allows guests to enjoy the Northern Lights, the starry sky, and the tranquility of the forest while experiencing modern comforts. The challenge was to design buildings that blend seamlessly into the sensitive Arctic environment while offering functional and inviting spaces.

Design Principles

The architectural design was guided by several key principles:

  • Connection with nature and views: The chalets are positioned with large north-facing panoramic windows, ensuring a seamless connection between indoor spaces and the surrounding forest and sky.
  • Intimacy and tranquility: With only about 20 units, the layout fosters a private and intimate atmosphere.
  • Warm natural materials and Scandinavian design: Wooden surfaces and a minimalist interior create a cozy and harmonious ambiance.

Technical and Spatial Solutions

The property consists of two main unit types: the 20 m² Glow Chalets and the 29 m² Glow Spa Chalets, the latter featuring a private sauna and, in some cases, an outdoor hot tub.

The buildings are compact yet meticulously designed: underfloor heating, modern bathrooms, and kitchenette facilities are integrated with the Arctic-inspired interior to ensure comfort without excess.

Chalet placement was carefully considered to optimize views, privacy, and daylight conditions, allowing the buildings to blend into the landscape while enhancing the guest experience. Modern amenities are combined with minimalist architecture and natural materials, creating a harmonious living environment.

Architectural Philosophy

Lapland Glow Chalets embodies the concept of “gentle luxury” — luxury without ostentation. Small details and thoughtful spatial design create an immersive and memorable guest experience. The philosophy is built on three pillars:

  1. Utilization of nature and light: Buildings harmonize with their surroundings and highlight Arctic light, Northern Lights, and the starry sky.
  2. Intimacy and tranquility: A limited number of units ensures privacy and quiet.
  3. Minimalist luxury: Spaces are compact but carefully planned, balancing comfort and experience.

Project Significance

Lapland Glow Chalets demonstrates how modern architecture and interior design can adapt to a sensitive northern environment without compromising guest experience or comfort. The project provides visitors with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the magic and silence of Lapland while enjoying thoughtfully designed spaces.

This project illustrates that Arctic luxury is not defined by scale but by attention to detail, integration with nature, and spatial planning. Lapland Glow Chalets serves as an example of how ecological sensitivity, aesthetics, and experiential quality can combine into a seamless whole where guests feel part of their surroundings.

Summary:
Lapland Glow Chalets combines closeness to nature, Arctic light, and minimalist luxury. A small number of carefully planned units, innovative lighting, and attention to spatial layout create an unforgettable experience where modern comfort and the beauty of nature meet.
